How to Workout From Home to Stay Fit and Healthy

This is a terrifying time for all of us. A natural instinct may be to crawl up in a big ball and hibernate. Or even worse: panic. When this quarantine first hit us and my local gym closed, I started to pick up some bad habits. Binge watching Netflix became the new normal, and while Tiger King is quite entertaining, it was time to establish a plan of action and create a new healthy routine. Did you know that physical exercise improves your overall fitness, which can help boost your immune system — the body’s defense against infections? Another reason why I had to start working out from home.  

The secret behind my new home workout? My smartwatch.

I start my day by taking yoga classes online, like the one taught by Adriene on YouTube. I use the new Spade & Co Smartwatch to track my yoga sessions, measure how much calories I burn and track my heart rate. There are a few well known brands out there, like Apple Watch and Fitbit. There are 14 sport modes to choose from, like yoga, running, hiking, spinning, walking, etc. The countdown time is very handy to time your reps and recovery time. I personally use the heart rate monitoring to track how much time I need to recover after each workout.

After each workout and throughout the day, I love using the Relax app to help me focus on my breathing. This helps me remove my stress, much needed during my sheltering days.

Re-introducing daily workouts while sheltering at home has helped me regain a positive mindset, something I desperately needed during this depressing time.
